I’m excited to tell you about what AFC and NFC are in nfl Jerseys. Well, these are two separate conferences in the league. The National Football Conference (NFC) is made up of 16 teams in the United States. The American Football Conference (AFC) is made up of 14 teams in the United States and two teams in Canada.
The two conferences play against each other twice a year in the regular season. Every team in the same conference has one another at least once and will divide and play against teams in the other conference. Ultimately, they aim to make it to the playoffs and represent their conference in the Super Bowl. In the NFL, only the champion of each conference gets to go to the Super Bowl.
Let’s look at the structure of the two conferences. The sixteen teams in the NFC are divided into four divisions: the North, East, West, and South. The North division consists of the Chicago Bears, the Detroit Lions, the Green Bay Packers, and the Minnesota Vikings. The East division teams are the Carolina Panthers, Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, and the Washington Football Team. And the West division has the Arizona Cardinals, the Los Angeles Rams, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Seattle Seahawks making up the four teams. The remaining teams in the South division are the Atlanta Falcons, the New Orleans Saints, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Miami Dolphins.
In the AFC, you have the fourteen teams that are also divided into four groups, the West, North, South and East. The West division teams are the Denver Broncos, the Los Angeles Chargers, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Oakland Raiders. The North division teams are the Baltimore Ravens, the Cincinnati Bengals, the Cleveland Browns, and the Pittsburg Steelers. The South division teams are the Houston Texans, the Indianapolis Colts, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Tennessee Titans. The East division teams are the Buffalo Bills, the Miami Dolphins, the New England Patriots, and the New York Jets.
The winner of each division and two wild card teams from each conference get automatically qualify for the playoffs. Everyone then competes against each other to make it to the Super Bowl. Since the two conferences are in a way rivals, it adds a lot of excitement to the games. The majority of the fans that follow the NFL are usually rooting for a certain team and conference, so these matchups can really heat up the crowd.
It’s not only the rivalry between the two conferences that makes it entertaining, but the underlying competition between teams from the same conference too – for the wild card spots. Not only are the teams competing against each other, but they also have to be aware of how the other conference is placing. That in itself creates a lot of drama as teams are trying to qualify for the playoffs.
