It’s always great to catch up with old friends and catch up on what’s been going on in their lives. Last time I ran into one of my former high school friends I asked him if he had heard the news, is Eddie George in the NFL Hall of Fame? He’s a legendary football player and one of our all-time favorite running backs.
My friend told me he was sure Eddie George was in the Hall of Fame because of his extraordinary career and the stats he achieved throughout his eight NFL seasons: he rushed 10,441 yards while playing for the Oilers, Titans, and Cowboys. He was also a four-time Pro-Bowler and an All-Pro selection in 2000.
That’s when I realized, wow- Eddie really deserves it! I mean, the man was an absolute beast on the gridiron. He had amazing balance, vision, and quickness. He even won the Heisman Trophy in 1995, so he was one of the best college running backs.
That’s when my friend admitted he wasn’t sure if Eddie made it into the Hall of Fame or not. He suggested we look it up on our phones. That’s when we both automatically started talking about our favorite matches. And who could forget his tough plays and nasty blocks against Hall of Famer Ray Lewis? We were both in awe of his strength and agility.
We couldn’t help but be amazed at how Eddie continued to produce year after year. He was a leader both on and off the field, and he truly embodied what it means to be a professional athlete. This was why it filled us with joy to officially hear that Eddie George had earned his rightful place in the NFL Hall of Fame.
We reminisced some more until we finished our catch up session and went our separate ways. But one thing was for sure… We both agreed that Eddie George was a one of a kind player and truly a worthy Hall of Famer.
But that brought up another question: Who else deserves to be in the Hall of Fame? That’s when we both started talking about some of the greatest players in NFL history. Who can forget Jerry Rice or Emmitt Smith? We all agreed that everybody in the Hall of Fame is a special player and each one of them has a special place in our hearts.
My friend then started talking about the importance of honoring the greats in the NFL, letting the world know who truly deserves an iconic place in the Hall. We discussed the posthumous inductions of Steve McNair and Junior Seau, both of whom passed away in tragic circumstances.
I went on to suggest that perhaps the Hall of Fame should honor the grit and fortitude of those who have achieved greatness in the face of adversity. Names such as Terrell Owens, John Randle, and Cris Carter were all brought up. I suggested that the NFL Hall of Fame should emphasize the universal importance of such never-say-die attitudes, rather than the numbers or the accolades.
My friend then asked me if I thought that by honoring the resilient players, it will actually create a more balanced and inclusive Hall of Fame. I agreed, and we both agreed that it’s immensely important to commemorate and acknowledge the achievements of all the great players in NFL history.
We continued to talk and wholesale jerseys argued about the value of legendary players to the game, and how they should be officially honored and respected. We ended our conversation by agreeing that, no matter what people think of the NFL, it still remains the cornerstone of American sport.
